Andromeda Oval in Cranebrook will receive an upgrade to improve the sports and recreation infrastructure of the oval for the sports groups, schools and residents who use this facility.
The upgrade will include:
- an upgrade to the existing amenities building
- improved drainage and playing surfaces for the eastern fields
- an upgrade to the multi-sport courts, and
- a car park extension.
Construction is due to begin in 2024.
Cook Park in St Marys, which attracts an estimated 175,000 visitors annually, will receive a significant upgrade to meet the needs of the sporting and general community.
The upgrade will include:
- a new amenities building featuring modern change rooms and showers, accessible toilet facilities, officials’ changerooms, canteen, storage, multi-purpose activity space, and first aid room
- grandstand extension with spectator viewing facilities
- a new synthetic playing surface
- additional car parking spaces
- a new walking circuit with pedestrian lighting
- landscaping, and
- tree planting.
Harold Corr Oval in Cambridge Park has been transformed into Penrith’s first all-weather synthetic athletics track and field facilities.
Officially opened in September 2023, this project was funded with contributions from Council ($4.5 million), the NSW Government through the Penrith Sporting Infrastructure Project ($2 million), and the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program ($423,000).
The upgrade included:
• a 400-metre, 8 lane synthetic athletics track that is World Athletics certified as a Class 2 facility
• synthetic field facilities including long jump, triple jump, high jump, steeplechase, pole vault, hammer throw, discus, shot put and javelin
• 200 LUX competition floodlighting and 100 LUX training floodlighting
• new equipment storage building
• 65-space car park

Upgrades to the Hickeys Lane sportsground, Penrith were completed in July 2023.
The upgrade included:
- A new amenities building
- Floodlight upgrades
- Car park upgrade
- Irrigation improvements
- Fencing improvements
This project was delivered by Council ($1 million) in partnership with the NSW Government ($1.36 million) through the Penrith Sporting Infrastructure Project.
- two standard football (soccer) fields, which can accommodate eight small sided fields
- one senior size cricket pitch
- one AFL oval
Additional features include:
- Amenities building (toilets only)
- Drinking fountains
- Spectator boundary fencing (1.5 m high)
- LED 100 LUX floodlighting
- Pathway for ease of access
Work is continuing to upgrade Parker Street Reserve, Penrith. The existing grounds are set to receive major upgrades including:
- a new amenities building to the upper fields
- upgrade to the existing athletics amenities building to provide storage and accessible toilet facilities
- floodlighting upgrades to all fields and athletics track
- irrigation, fencing and playing surface upgrades to the southern fields for rugby league use
- increased car parking
- drainage
- remediation of all playing surfaces
- a new playspace
- landscaping, and
- tree planting.
As of December 2022, LED floodlighting and a new irrigation system has been installed on the rugby league fields. Turf has been laid on the new southern rugby league fields. LED floodlighting has also been installed on the athletics track.
Construction is continuing on the new amenities building for the upper fields. In early 2023, fencing will be installed on the southern rugby league fields.
The Parker Street Reserve Upgrade is funded by Council and the NSW Government.
These upgrades will increase the quality of the facility and sports and recreation opportunities for sports clubs, schools and residents.
This project is due for completion in early 2026.
Parker Street Reserve will remain open to the public as works are carried out. Only the specific areas under construction at the time will be closed.
Council is working with the contractor to minimise disturbances for residents including restricting construction noise to between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 1pm on Saturday.

As part of the Penrith Sport and Recreation Strategy, almost $4.2 million is being invested in the upgrade of The Kingsway Sports Precinct in Werrington.
These upgrades will transform the precinct into one of the highest quality multi-purpose sporting facilities in Penrith with 23 touch football & Oztag fields, four cricket pitches, four rugby league fields, LED floodlighting, irrigation and amenities for community users, schools and sports groups at a local, district and state level.
Penrith City Council recently commenced works at The Kingsway North playing fields. The existing grounds are receiving major upgrades including:
- a new irrigation system
- major playing surface upgrades to 17 fields.
The Kingsway North playing fields upgrade is an $800,000 project proudly funded by the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund (Phase 2), in association with the NSW Government through the Greater Cities Sports Facility Fund and Penrith City Council.
The new irrigation system has been installed and playing surface upgrades are underway. The project is due for completion by early 2023.
Council has worked with sports user groups to complete the project in stages, allowing for continued use for sporting competitions.
In addition, Penrith City Council recently delivered a $3.3 million upgrade project to The Kingsway West which was completed in August 2021. This included:
- six sporting fields and irrigation
- one cricket pitch
- amenities building
- car park upgrades
- new LED floodlighting
In September 2021, new floodlighting was also installed on two mini rugby league fields at The Kingsway South. The $75,000 project was funded by the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (Phase 1). For more information, email
