Gipps Street Recreation Precinct

Council is transforming its 32-hectare former waste facility site at Claremont Meadows into a landmark sport and recreation destination. Gipps Street Recreation Precinct will incorporate active and passive sport and recreational space, including:

• Floodlit sports fields
• Inclusive children’s play, water play, and nature play areas, including shade 
• Youth precinct with floodlit skate park, pump track and multi-sport courts 
• Floodlit netball courts and district leve cricket practice facilities 
• Outdoor health and fitness gym equipment for all ages
• Off leash floodlit dog park, with separate areas for small and large dogs
• Pedestrian connections, including walking loops and nature trail 
• Passive recreation, picnic and viewing areas, including barbeques, shelters and public art 
• Tree planting and landscaping 
• Main amenities building with large-scale canteen, storage, multi-purpose area, accessible toilets, change rooms for officials and eight player change rooms to suit multiple sports
• Supporting toilet facilities throughout the precinct, and
• Car parking, including accessible spaces and coach drop off/parking 

WHERE IS THE PROJECT UP TO NOW?

Council began construction of the Gipps Street Recreation Precinct in August 2022. It is expected to open to the public in 2024.

HOW IS THIS PROJECT BEING FUNDED?

This project is being funded by Penrith City Council ($30.71 million) and the NSW Government through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program ($7 million), the Office of Sport’s Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund ($5 million) and Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund ($1 million), and the Department of Planning and Environment’s Open Spaces Program ($500,000).
